Entry Requirements

Students must have existing knowledge including an understanding of natural diamond growth and morphology as well as the ability to use standard gemological kit including microscopes.

Covered on the course

  • Review HPHT and CVD production methods.

  • Learn techniques to highlight specific identification features in use.

  • Deep-dive in the full suite of De Beers screening and verification instruments.

  • Study a wide range of products including HPHT and CVD Synthetic Diamonds, Simulants and HPHT treated materials.

  • Apply the knowledge gained commercially, to inform business decisions. This includes employing testing and referral services or the purchase of new instruments to control in house operations.

  • What types of synthetic diamonds will be covered?

    In this course we will focus on the creation and identification of both HPHT synthetic diamonds, as well as CVD synthetic diamonds.

  • I do not sell synthetic diamonds, so is this course relevant to me?

    The risk of undisclosed synthetic diamonds being sold as diamonds is a sad but real risk today. This course aims to provide you with clear advice and guidance on  how to protect your internal pipeline and continue to ensure that consumer confidence is achieved within your business.

  • Can I test my own diamonds on the course?

    Samples for testing will be provided by the training team and we kindly ask students not to bring specific examples of their own. Once you have completed the course, and have a better understanding of how to detect synthetic diamonds, one of our representatives will be happy to share more detail about testing services and equipment which is available to the industry.

  • What do I need to bring to the course?

    The course utilises some the world leading screening and verification equipment produced by De Beers. All samples to be used throughout the day will be supplied by our experts. Therefore you only need to bring yourself.
